Scandinavian Finish on Furniture

The finish I used on my furniture design project was a soap finish used in many Scandinavian countries, it has a medium sheen finish that is soft to touch and looks best on light colored timbers. The solution was 1 cup of castile soap flakes (can be got in any health food stores across the country) one cup boiling water. I let the mix sit for a day and then applied three coats to the oak, denibbed with a light sanding of 320 grit sandpaper and applied another two coats. This solution is best applied on bare wood and is totally safe to use. The soap should be applied once a year depending on how much the furniture is used. The solution can be stored in a mason jar and put away, it has a long shelf life so no waste. As you can see below in the picture the soap leaves a really nice finish, the finish really suits the steel wrapped around it.
